Sunday Best
Horse Tracks have long been a place where people dress in their finest garments, put on their biggest hats, and spend a day placing bets. A century ago, this was an activity that was enjoyed predominantly by the upper class. It was a glamorous and expensive outing, and one that not everyone could partake in.
Golden Gate Fields, in Berkeley, hosts Dollar Days every Sunday during the racing season. The entrance, the parking, hot dogs, beers, mimosas, and programs—all for one dollar. For this reason, it’s a great activity for friends, families, and, of course, horse race connoisseurs.
People come from all over the Bay Area to enjoy a day at the races. Most people put on a finely curated outfit, a unique handmade hat, and come to enjoy a day of fun.
